The Logan County Landfill will be Closed Tuesday, October 17 through Friday, October 20, 2017. We will use this time to replace the truck-scale that has suffered a major failure. The community is encouraged to donate blood on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ballroom in Hayes Student Center at NJC in Sterling to help those who have been seriously injured and need blood products to help them recover. It’s the blood already on the shelves that helps save lives.
The NJC Aggies Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry will be held Thursday, October 19 starting at 6pm at the NJC North Campus – AV Building. All you can eat Rocky Mountain Oysters and Chicken Strips, plus the Kiss a Pig contest and Chicken Drop Bingo. Free to NJC students and staff with ID, or $10 for adults, $5 or kids 12 and under, free for kids under 3. Bring 5 canned goods to be donated to Cooperating Ministry for $2 off ticket price.
On Saturday, October 21st, “Another Night at the Museum” will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling for children ages 8-12. During this slightly more intense event, participants will also be enlisted to assist the museum staff in solving a mystery as they gather around the fire pit to hear a tale of some mighty strange happenings. Following the story, a flashlight search through the darkened museum grounds and buildings will ensue, as unexplained events and mysterious encounters will send a chill or two down the spine of even the bravest participants. The regular museum admission of $1.50 for children and $3.00 for attending adults does apply for “Another Night at the Museum,” while 3-year-olds are admitted freeof-charge. The United States Air Force Academy Falconaires, an 18 piece jazz band from Colorado Springs, will be holding a free concert October 21 at 7pm at the Corsberg Theater at NJC in Sterling. The Falconaires are affiliated with the USAF Academy and support it and its recruiting needs. Part of their mission is to visit local communities like Sterling, providing free concerts to the public. Our goal is to honor veterans, thank the public for its support of the Armed forces and inspire patriotism, at the same time we provide a very entertaining show!
The Hillrose-Snyder Volunteer Fire Department Chili Supper & Gun Raffle will be held Saturday, October 21 starting at 5pm at the Hillrose Fire Hall. Chili supper is $5/per. The Arickaree FFA Fall Festival is October 21st at 1 - 3 pm! It is great fun for all ages. There will be a costume contest so be sure to wear your best costume! There will also be snacks, pumpkin carving, face painting, and many more games and activities.

How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
The City of Sterling announces the FALL CLEANUP, scheduled to begin on October 23, 2017. As a service to residential trash customers, the City will pick up any trash or rubbish, which is legally disposable at the Logan County Landfill. Appliances containing Freon will not be accepted unless they have been certified “Freon Free” by an approved Freon reclamation center such as your local appliance dealer.
The City has divided residential neighborhoods into four areas and City crews will only pick up items on the designated day(s) for each area. CITY WILL NOT COME BACK TO PICK UP ITEMS SET OUT AFTER DESIGNATED ROUTE IS COMPLETED. All items should be available for pick-up no later than 7 a.m. on the first date of your area pick-up

The next History Café at the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling will be held October 25. History Café is a monthly program that occurs on the last Wednesday of each month. Join for muffins, coffee, and tea as you learn about various topics of local history. Cost is $3 per person. Reservations are not required but are appreciated. The next two sessions of the Fort Morgan Police Department’s “Coffee With a Cop” program are set for late October. FMPD Community Resource Officer Roger Doll will be at Morgan Community College’s Student Center on Thursday, Oct. 26. FMPD Commander Loren Sharp will be at Café Lotus on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Both sessions will be from 9 to 10 a.m. The informal Coffee With a Cop meetings offer a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions, make comments and offer suggestions, and also learn more about the police department’s work in Fort Morgan’s neighborhoods. There is no agenda for the Coffee With a Cop sessions, just an opportunity for citizens to visit with law enforcement officers, ask questions and voice opinions. Two sessions are generally planned for each month, with dates and times announced as they become available.
Legal Resource Day will be held October 26 from 10am-2pm at the Logan County Justice Center, 110 N. Riverview Rd, Sterling. Session 1 (10-11am) will cover estates, session 2 (11am-12pm) will cover the eviction process, session 3 (1-2pm) will cover what to expect in a divorce/custody case. There will also be ask-an-attorney sessions during all three blocks (20 minute appointments are available to speak with an attorney in the areas of family law, grandparent and kinship rights, probate, and civil litigation). Morgan Community College is accepting entries for its annual calendar photo contest. The submission deadline is Friday, October 27 at 5pm. Entries must be in landscape orientation (minimum 10” wide by 8” tall) and a resolution of 300 DPI. Cellphone images will be accepted if they meet the above printing specifications. There is no limit to the number of entries, and the contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers. Contest submissions need to include the photographer’s name and phone number, and should be emailed to Katie.Barron@MorganCC.edu.
The winning entry will be credited on the calendar, which will be distributed by the College to the surrounding communities for free throughout the year; no monetary prize will be awarded. Upon entry, the photographer authorizes MCC’s use of the image in future Morgan Community College promotions or publications. The City of Sterling Recreation Department Announces our first ever Field of Screams CO-ED Softball Tournament. Join us Saturday October 28th 2017. Registration will be on the teamsideline.com/sterling website and cost is $150.00. All proceeds from the tournament will go towards the wildcat youth softball program. Weather will dictate what type of tournament as safety is of the utmost concern.

The Wray Recreation Department will be hosting a Halloween Mystery Dinner 6-8pm Monday, October 30 at the Wray City Hall Roundhouse. The event is for grades 7-12 and cost is $15 per person. The annual Halloween Cemetery Tour will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan on Tuesday, October 31st with two tour times...3pm & 5:30pm. The tour is free to everyone, but freewill donations will go to the Heritage Foundation. The tour will start from the northeast corner of the cemetery and is a walking tour around the four city blocks that compose the original section of the cemetery. Each tour will last over an hour and the distance covered is less than a mile. There are no ghosts or goblins, simply a walking tour back into history with a visit at the final resting sites of some of the people who were part of the town's past. Tours will be held regardless of weather, so dress accordingly. Since the 5:30pm tour will run well into darkness, please bring a flashlight. “Howl”oween 3K-5K Run/Walk: The City of Sterling Recreation Department Announces our first ever fun run/walk. Join us Monday night October 30th 2017. Registration begins at 5:30pm at the Security Pavilion with the race beginning at 6p.m. You may pre-register now via our www.teamsideline.com/sterling website. The race is free to participate in unless you would like an event T-shirt which will cost $10.00 ( if you register online your shirt will be at the registration table the day of the race. The option of buying one on race day is available as well). The 3K race will have candy and fun along the way! There will be a special treat at the finish line for all participants.
The Yuma County Courthouse Custodial Department is hosting a coat drive through Halloween. You are encouraged to drop off gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves at the courthouse or at Yuma City Hall. Items will be distributed the first week of November.

The Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile Pantry Truck will be at the Yuma County Fairgrounds, 410 West Hoag in Yuma on November 20 from 9am until the food is gone. Idalia Junior/Senior High School will be offering an Alive at 25 defensive driving class on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 11:00am-3:30pm. Alive at 25 is a highly interactive, 4½ hour driver's awareness course designed by the National Safety Council and taught by local law enforcement officers. The course encourages young drivers and passengers, ages 15-24, to take responsibility for their behavior in a motor vehicle. Alive at 25 instructors use personal examples, and even humor, to get their point across. They use workbook exercises, interactive media segments, group discussions, role-playing, and short lectures to help young drivers and passengers develop convictions and strategies that will keep them safer on the road. COLORADO CORN ORGANIZATIONS SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR FARM STEWARDSHIP AWARD
Many Colorado farmers are implementing some of the latest-and-greatest production methods, aimed at improving efficiency on their farms, protecting our natural resources, and enhancing air and water quality. And the Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC) and Colorado Corn Growers Association (CCGA) want to honor producers taking these efforts to new heights.The two Colorado Corn organizations are seeking applications for the Colorado Farm Stewardship Award. Applications are due Nov. 17. Applicants must be CCGA members in good standing, implement conservation tillage methods, and demonstrate practices related to soil, water or air stewardship. The winner will be announced during the Colorado Corn Annual Banquet on Dec. 6 in Burlington. The winner will also be recognized in CCAC and CCGA communications efforts, and receive the organizations' nominations for the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Good Steward recognition - a national honor that includes a $10,000 cash award, among other prizes. The Fort Morgan Young Farmers is once again planning our annual Game Night for a Cause on November 25th at Keith Bath's Big Red Shed. On the years the chapter is not raising money for a specific event or function, the proceeds from the evening are used to assist an individual or family in our community who is faced with a hardship. The chapter is currently working to finalize details for the event and this year proceeds will go to an individual or family in the community. Storytime at Wray Public Library Children will be held every Thursday at the library. Children eligible to attend are those who have celebrated their third birthday by May 1, 2017 through preschool age. This program is designed to entertain and teach children, Storytime is a program that will introduce young readers to the Wray Public Library and the wonderful world of storybooks and reading. Storytime will not be held when City of Wray is observing a holiday or the Wray School District is on vacation or has a snow day. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is now able to check your child restraint systems. Two Deputies recently attended the National Child Passenger Safety Certification course. If you would like to schedule a time to have your child restraint system checked, to ensure the safety of your child riding in your vehicle, please set up a time to meet with Deputy Fisher or Deputy Leisure. Phillips County Sheriff's Office is offering free gun locks as part of the Project Childsafe program. To receive your free lock , stop by the Phillips County Sheriff's Office. These locks will help you ensure your weapons remains in the open and cleared position if it should fall into the wrong hands.
