participating with U.S. Marshals in "Operation Shepherd."  Locally the Sheriff's
Office will be conducting sexual offender compliance checks, and targeting sex

Relay for Life benefit barrel races will be held June 18 to 20 at the Yuma County

S.A.R.A., Inc. will be holding a fundraising Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament on
Saturday, June 19th beginning at 6pm at the Ft. Morgan Elks Lodge.  There will
be limited seating, so people are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.

The City of Sterling Recreation Division will host the Colorado Rockies Baseball
Skills Challenge Saturday June 19.  The Challenge will be held at the S.B.O.
Complex - Legion Field, which is located north of the Sterling High School.  The
competition begins at 10am, with pre-registration starting at 9:30am.  The
competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-13.  For more information

North Sterling State Park is offering a campfire program on warm water fishing
on Saturday, June 19 at 7 pm. The program will feature J.C. Webb, a local
Colorado Division of Wildlife Officer and fishing enthusiast, who will cover some
of the major fishing destinations in northeastern Colorado, provide information
on the DOW Northeast Region fish management strategy and discuss what
species to look for at popular fishing locations. The program will be held at the
North Sterling State Park Amphitheater, located near the Inlet Grove
Campground. In the event of bad weather, the program will move inside to the
South Camper Services Building. The fishing program is free, but all vehicles
that enter the park must display a $6.00 daily pass or an annual pass in the
windshield. Day passes can be purchased from gate staff, the visitor’s center or
the self-service stations located at all park entrances. For additional information

Dr. Vel Kailasam and Pat Patrick, Family Nurse Practitioner, and staff from
Northern Colorado Allergy and Asthma Clinic will be performing spirometry and
interpretation of lung function tests free of charge on Saturday, June 19, 2010,
from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.  The screenings are being held at the Specialty
Clinic located on the campus of Colorado Plains Medical Center,
1000 Lincoln Street in Fort Morgan.  There is no charge for these asthma
screenings due to the generosity of a grant sponsored by The American College
of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology.  Both adults and children can participate.

Plan to attend the High Plains Outdoor Expo June 19-20 at the Logan County
Fairgrounds in Sterling. The event is scheduled for 10 am to 4 pm Saturday &
Sunday, June 19 and 20. There will be many activities including disc golf, a
bicycle rodeo, fishing contests for children,  tractor pull on Sunday, and many
booths with services, activities and shopping opportunities under the
grandstands. Sunday’s highlight will be the NJC Young Farmers’ tractor pull.
Purchase of a ticket to the tractor pull also allows you into the Expo activities. The
Outdoor Expo is promoting outdoor activities, but is also open to home-based

Vacation Bible School will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1215 West 7th
Avenue in Fort Morgan, will be held Monday through Friday, June 21st through
the 25th from 9am to 11:30am each morning. All children, ages 3 years through
the 8th grade, are invited.

The 32nd Annual Yuma County Cake Show is set for June 22 at the Yuma

This year Sterling Public Library is offering a special program for kids age 10
through 15 called Art Challenge.  This is a seven week program that focuses on
different art techniques each week.  The classes will be held on Tuesdays at
3:30 and last at least 1 hour.  These classes will be more in-depth than the
usual programs offered during the summer, teaching them various skills and
techniques needed to complete a project.  You must register for each class
individually.  Registration begins the Wednesday before the class.  You may call

The annual Glenn Miller - Dancin' on the Plains Festival will be held in Fort
Morgan on Thursday, June 24th through Sunday, June 27th. For a complete

The Annual Wray High School Alumni Reunion will take place June 25 to 27.  
Honor Years end in 0 and 5.  Events are planned for everyone, including the
prayer breakfast, open house, banquet and individual class activities.


Yuma County Relay for Life will be held June 25 and 26 starting at 6 pm and
going until 8 am on the 26th.  Everything will be held at the Yuma Football Field.

The Sterling Lions Club will celebrate their 90th anniversary June 26 at Pioneer
Park in Sterling.  Get breakfast for 90 cents from 6:30-9am with net proceeds

The annual Kid's Pet Show, sponsored by the City of Sterling Recreation
Division and Cher's Pet Shop, is scheduled for Saturday June 26 at 10am at
Propst Park in Sterling.  Kid's can pre-register by filling out an entry form
available at the Sterling Recreation Center or at Cher's Pet Shop in Sterling, or
kid's can register at 9:30am the morning of the event.  Kids showing pets must
be 2-18 years old and dogs and cats must be on a leash and have proper

Dig out from the paper avalanche!  There will be a shredding event Monday
June 28 from 4-6pm in the lot west of the Farmers State Bank in Akron.

The 39th annual Sagebrush Art Club's Regional Art Exhibit & Sale will be held
throughout the months of June and July in the Lower Level of the Fort Morgan

Everyone is encouraged to attend the City of Sterling's Annual 4th of July
activities.  The fun begins at 7pm on Sunday July 4th at the Pioneer Park Security
Pavilion with the band "Juke Joint Cruisers."  The City of Sterling's Annual July
4th Fireworks display will start at approximately 9pm, and when the fireworks
end, the "Juke Joint Cruisers" will finish off the evening by playing until 10:30pm.

Bonny Lake State Park will host the park’s Third Annual Dutch Oven & Chili Cook-
Off on Saturday, July 17 from 8 am to 5 pm. All cooks are welcome! Enjoy the
annual event that offers outdoor fun, good food and sharing enthusiasm for the
variety of chili recipes and Dutch oven cooking. Prizes will be awarded to the top
three places chosen by the judges in all categories. Spectators will be able to
taste all dishes after the judging is complete.  Register for the Cook-Off by

Plan your floats now for this years Wray Daze Parade and the Yuma County Fair
Parade.  The theme for both parades is "A Century of Head, Heart, Hands and
Health"  This year also celebrates 100 years of 4-H.


Tickets are now on sale for this years Yuma County Fair Concert with Jake Owen

Josh Turner will headline the Logan County Fair and Rodeo Night Show on
Saturday August 7 with Luke Bryan opening. The 2010 Logan County Fair and
Rodeo runs from July 29-August 8 and includes along with the night of country
music, an action packed night of bull riding, two nights of PRCA rodeo, a junior
rodeo, parade, carnival, concessions, livestock exhibits, 4-H activities,
demolition derby and much more. Tickets for the variety of grandstand events,
including the Night Show concert are now on sale. Tickets will be available on-
line, as well as at the Logan County Courthouse and at the ticket booth at the

The Fort Morgan United Presbyterian Church will hold the 2010 Fall Arts & Crafts
Festival on Saturday, October 2nd from 9am to 3pm. Craft or Farmer's Market

The Wray School District Office is now on Summer Hours.  Hours Monday
through Thursday  from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm and Fridays from 7:30 am to 3 pm.

The Fort Morgan Mural Project Workshops are being held at the School for the
Performing Arts in Fort Morgan on the second Monday of each month from 7pm
to 9pm, the second Saturday of each month from 9am to Noon and every

New hours are now in effect at the Yuma County Courts.  The courts are now
open Monday through Thursday from 8am to noon and 1-4:30pm and Fridays
from 8am to 1 pm. This is temporary due to budget short falls and hiring
freezes.  The staff appreciates your patience.


The Yuma Lions Club has Bingo on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each
month at the Club at Indian Hills in Yuma.


The Sterling Public Library has openings for Toddle Time on Wednesday from
10:00 am to 10:30 am.  Toddle time is for children age 18 months through age
2.  Little Readers for children age 3 through 5 is held on Tuesday from
10:00 am to 10:45 am.
