Community Calendar
Sterling Public Library will not have Story Time on March 10th at 10:00 am as the
library will be moving books in preparation for construction.  Story Time will
resume on March 16th and 17th.


The Ft. Morgan Social Security Office, 800 East Beaver Avenue, will be open
Wednesday, March 10th from 9am to 3pm.  The Sterling Social Security Office,
508 South 10th Avenue, will be open Wednesday, March 17th from 9am to 3pm.

The Northeast Colorado Health Department is sponsoring a healthy child clinic
on Wednesday, March 10 from 9am – 3pm at NCHD’s district headquarters,
located at 700 Columbine St., Sterling.  This free clinic is designed for all
children, age 6 months to 5 years and offers screenings such as

Sterling Public Library will be providing a series of gardening programs this

The Wray Community Child Care Center is taking orders for Krispy Kreme
Donuts as a fund raiser.  Cost is just $10.00 dozen - prepaid only.  Delivery date
is Monday March 15th at 10 am and you may place your order through
Friday March 12 at noon.


The City of Brush will be hosting the 5th annual St. Patrick's Day walk & run
along with a corned beef & cabbage lunch on Saturday, March 13th.  Money
raised will help fund the Brush Recreation Departments "2010 Concert Series in
the Park" along with the Downtown Renovation Project.


A Trap Shoot benefit for the Dan Steckman Family will be held on Saturday

The Yuma County Cattlemens Association invites you to their annual steer
auction and oyster fry in conjunction with their feedlot performance and carcass
contest.  The event will take place Saturday March 13th at 5:30 pm at the
Wray Elks Lodge.


The 4th Annual Laird St. Patrick's Day Parade and BBQ will be held on Saturday

The Annual High Plains District Boy Scout Show will be held on Saturday
March 13th at Buchanan Middle School in Wray.  Its a family day outing that runs

The Morgan County Family Center will hold it's annual fundraiser, "A Chocolate

The 22nd annual Brophy St. Patrick's Day Celebration will be held on Saturday
March 13 at the Eckley Community Center.  Parade begins at 10 am and lunch at

An organ recital, entitled "Pipes for Pipes", and featuring Paul Stever, Cathy
Bosley and Diane Lumpkin, will be held at the United Presbyterian Church in Ft.
Morgan on Sunday, March 14th at 3pm.  Tickets are $10 each and all proceeds

The next meeting of the Eckley Trailblazers 4-H club is Sunday March 14 at
1 pm.


A group of students from North Dakota State University will be embarking upon
their annual “pay it forward” spring break tour this coming March. They will be in
Sterling on Sunday, March 14th and are seeking a community service project to
complete. “Students Today, Leaders Forever” is a student services based
organization at NDSU. There will be between 35 and 45 students in the group
and they need to find a community service project that they can work on as a total
group which can be completed in a maximum of four hours time, or between
8 am and 12 noon on Sunday, March 14th. The group will break up into smaller
work crews to do multiple projects so long as they are in close proximity to each
other. However, they prefer a major project to undertake altogether. Those who
utilize this service should be a non-profit group, or individuals who qualify for low-
income or elderly services.  Anyone who would like to know more information
about this project, or to propose a project, may contact Barbara Baker at
Northeastern Junior College, 521-6611, who will in turn get you connected to the
appropriate individuals at NDSU.


In preparation for construction Sterling Public Library will be taking the Quilt
Show down on March 15th.  There are many beautiful quilts to view.   The
Friends of the Library also have a quilt that was donated as a fundraiser.  This
quilt is on a silent auction.  The quilt is displayed at the library.  Bids may also be
placed at the library for this beautiful quilt. The quilt is titled Grandmother’s Fan.  
It is 96” x 96”.  The Grandmother’s Fan was a favorite quilt pattern during the
1930’s.  This quilt is made of 1930’s reproduction prints.  Bids will be taken
through March 31st.  The quilt may not be on display through March 31st but it
can be seen at the library through that time.


The Harlem Ambassadors basketball show will be at the Ft. Morgan High
School Gym on Monday, March 15th taking on the Morgan County Heroes.  All
proceeds will benefit the Morgan County CASA Program.  For more information,

The Annual Wiggins FFA Hired Hand Auction and Steak Sandwich Supper will
be held on Monday, March 15th beginning at 6pm in the Wiggins Elementary

NE Colorado BOCES and the Wray School District will be offering a Free
Developmental Screening for children ages 3 to 5 on Monday March 15 at the

Yuma High School Drama Department will sponsor a youth theatre camp on
March 15-18 and March 22-25 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm each day at
Yuma High School.  A final performance will be held on March 25th at

Kids Phit classes meet at the WRAC in Wray on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.

The 31st St. Patrick's Benefit Auction will be held Wednesday March 17 at The
Main Event Bar and Grill in Yuma.  Dinner and fun will begin at 6pm and auction
will follow at 7pm.  This year's beneficiaries are Boy Scouts/Girls Scouts, Yuma
Fine Arts Council, VFW Post 3378, Senior Centers/Home Health, Yuma Public
Library, ESTRELLAS.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.  Donations can be
delivered to the Yuma Community Center at 421 E. 2nd Ave and they will also

St. Andrews Alter and Rosary Society will have their annual St. Patricks Day
Salad Luncheon on Wednesday March 17 at St. Andrews Hall in Wray from

The Eastern Colorado Workforce centers will have job fairs throughout
Northeastern Colorado.  In Sterling the job fair will be on March 17th, in

Perkins County Arts Council presents "One Toe in The Grave" March 18, 19, 20
at the Perkins County High School.


The Annual Meeting of YW Electric Association will be held on Friday March 19th
at the Washington County Event Center in Akron. Registration is at 9:00am and
the meeting at 10:00am.  Grand Prize is $5000 and you must be present to win.  
There will also be other prizes and giveaways.


The American Red Cross is offering a Shelter Training Class Saturday
March 20th at the Yuma Ambulance Building.  Class runs from 9 am to 3 pm.

"Croppin' For Babies", a charity crop to benefit The Baby Foundation, will be held

The 2010 Logan County Republican Assembly will convene at the Sterling High
School Auditorium at 1pm March 27.  The purpose of the Assembly is to
nominate and elect nominees for the offices of Logan County Government,
including District 3 Commissioner, Sheriff, County Clerk and Recorder,
Assessor, Treasurer, and Coroner.  The Assembly will also elect delegates to fill
any potential vacancies to State Assembly and elect alternate delegates to the
State Assembly on an at large basis.  The Assembly will vote on any resolutions
brought before the Assembly and conduct any other business of this Assembly.

Municipal Elections are coming up and candidates are encouraged to run for
various City Council positions.  In Yuma, 4 seats are up for elections.   In Otis, 7
seats and in Eckley 3 Board of Trustees and Mayor are up for Election.  Elections
will be held on Tuesday April 6th. Stop by your respective City or Town for more

The Sherman Early Childhood Center in Fort Morgan is conducting it's annual
registration for the 2010 - 2011 school year.  You may register your child in the
kindergarten office from 9am to 3:30pm on April 5th through the 8th with
extended hours until 6pm on Wednesday, April 7th.  Please remember to bring
your child's birth certificate and immunization records.  To enter kindergarten,
children must be 5 years old by June 15th, 2010.


Registration for the upcoming City of Sterling Wildcat Youth T-Ball, Machine-
Pitch, and Fast-Pitch Programs are underway.  Individual registration forms were
distributed to all RE-1 Valley Schools and are available at the Sterling
Recreation Center, upstairs at the Department of Parks, Library, and Recreation
Office in City Hall, and Pro Sports in Sterling.  The deadline to enter all divisions
is April 8.  For more information such as age groups or fees, or to receive

The 9 Health Fair will be held in Haxtun on Saturday April 10 from 7 to 11am at
the Haxtun Community Center.  Blood Draws, numerous screenings and
osteoporosis screenings available.


The City of Sterling Recreation Division is currently accepting registrations for
the Adult Summer Softball Program.  League games will begin the week of May
10 and Continue through the week of July 16.  The deadline to register is
Wednesday April 14.  Registrations may be mailed or brought to the Sterling
Recreation Center at 808 Elm Street in Sterling.  Registration forms are
available at the Sterling Recreation Center, upstairs at Sterling City Hall, or at

Josh Turner will headline the Logan County Fair and Rodeo Night Show on
Saturday August 7 with Luke Bryan opening. The 2010 Logan County Fair and
Rodeo runs from July 29-August 8 and includes along with the night of country
music, an action packed night of bull riding, two nights of PRCA rodeo, a junior
rodeo, parade, carnival, concessions, livestock exhibits, 4-H activities,
demolition derby and much more. Tickets for the variety of grandstand events,
including the Night Show concert, will go on sale May 3. Tickets will be available
on-line, as well as at the Logan County Courthouse and at the ticket booth at the

Applications for summer employment at Bonny Lake State Park are now being
accepted.  Positions include Seasonal Park Rangers, Aquatic Nuisance
Species Inspectors and Park Naturalist.  Wages vary depending on position.

Lake home page and click on jobs.


New hours are now in effect at the Yuma County Courts.  The courts are now
open Monday through Thursday from 8am to noon and 1-4:30pm and Fridays
from 8am to 1 pm. This is temporary due to budget short falls and hiring
freezes.  The staff appreciates your patience.


The Yuma Lions Club has Bingo on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each
month at the Club at Indian Hills in Yuma.


The Sterling Public Library has openings for Toddle Time on Wednesday from
10:00 am to 10:30 am.  Toddle time is for children age 18 months through age
2.  Little Readers for children age 3 through 5 is held on Tuesday from
10:00 am to 10:45 am.
